Fourth Engineer (4/E)

4/E reports to the C/E (through 2/E).
In absence of 3/E, 4/E may be required to officiate as 3/E, subject to prior approval from DPA.

Responsibilities –

1. Keep the 8 o’clock – 12 o’clock engine room watch provided he is holding an appropriate certificate of competency, else C/E maintains this watch.
2. Assist C/E during maneuvering of the vessel.
3. Properly maintain fuel oil and lubricating oil purifiers and filters.
4. Properly maintain fuel transfer system and sewage plant.
5. Maintain other equipments/machinery in the engine room as instructed by the C/E.
6. Carry out transfer of fuel and lubricating oil, maintain tank soundings / bunker records and assist in bunkering.
7. Maintain updated records of preventive maintenance plans of pumps.
8. Inform C/E in advance of requirement of spare parts and stores for machinery controlled.
9. Perform other duties as assigned by C/E (depending on situation).
